The project_

A book of photographs. A very personal starting point.

The brief_

David had put together an edit of photographs from across his life. I was asked to make a book of that edit. We had worked together many times before, and he had become a good friend.

The observation_

David shared a letter connected to his adoption. I suggested that part of it should become the title. It was, essentially, the first written statement of the life that followed. An appropriate place to begin a book looking back over that life.

The application_

The letter became part of the book’s introduction to David and his work. Private details were blacked out. The book brought the photographic edit into print with a London publisher and production in Hong Kong.
